This site is designed to provided information and resources to Crookston music students, their parents, alumni, boosters and the Crookston community. We hope you find this site easy to use and informative. Click on any of the links to the left for more information.
The Crookston Music Department is volunteer based and consists of students in 4th through 12th grade. Students of all ages perform regularly for the community as a whole, and are encouraged to perform more frequently on their own. The bands goal is to spread the joy of music throughout the Crookston Community and beyond by continually striving to increase the quality and frequency of musical performances.

Kiwanis French Toast Breakfast a Success!
The American Legion hall was packed with music and French Toast lovers alike! Those in attendance enjoyed great food and even better entertainment provided by the musicians of Crookston High School.

Copper Street Brass Residency and Concert
The Crookston Music Department is pleased to announce the Copper Street Brass Quintet will be participating in a three day residency in the Crookston Schools. The Copper Street Brass is a professional performing group located in the twin cities. Beginning on Wednesday, May 8th and ending on Friday, May 10th, the residency will include students k-12 and music ranging from classical to rock. As part of the residency, the Copper Street Brass will provide a public concert on Thursday, May 9th, 8:00 pm in the High School Auditorium. Admission to the concert is free, but a freewill offering will be taken to defray the costs of the residency. Community members interested in learning more about the Copper Street Brass can go to csbq.org or contact Mr. Brandt at the High School.

Remind101 is a program that allows individuals to sign up to receive text notifications from Mr. Brandt. This will be used in any instance where the schedule has changed, or as a simple reminder. i.e.. The bus for pep band is now leaving at 4pm. Through this program all phone numbers are kept private from all users. This allows Mr. Brandt to text out a reminder without knowing your number and visa versa. Crookston Pep Band to Play for UMC Basketball
Come on out to the sports center at UMC this Friday night to hear the Crookston Pep band cheer on the Eagle's basketball teams at 6pm and 8pm!
Choral Students Receive Instruction From UND Professor
Melanie Popejoy is associate director of choral activities at the University of North Dakota, where she conducts the Allegro Women's Choir and Vivo Chamber Ensemble, and instructs courses in Choral Music Education Methods and Music Fundamentals. In addition, she is the founder and artistic director of the Grand Cities Children's Choir, serving as conductor of the elite Primo Voce choir. Popejoy has been working with the Junior High and Senior High Choir students at CHS, with special emphasis given to students participating in the vocal solo contest on Jan. 23. The grant will conclude with a recital which will be open to the public at a date and time to be determined.

Music Students Volunteer at the Food Bank
On Friday, January 4th, over 70 music students volunteered to aid the Crookston community by visiting the North Country Food Bank. While there, the students packaged over 350 boxes and filled 970 backpacks of food that will be distributed in the community. Volunteer Coordinator Russ Tate said that amounts to about one quarter of the food banks total distribution for the month. Thank you students for volunteering!
Thank You Northwest Minnesota Arts Council
Huge thanks to the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council who recently approved a $10,000 grant to fund a professional brass quintet (Copper Street Brass) residency. The residency will take place at the High School and Highland Elementary March 18th - 20th with a concert open to the public on Tuesday March 19th 7:30pm in the High School Auditorium. NMAC has provided an aditional $2,400 to bring in UND director of choral activities to work the the high school choir, and select students as they prepare for solo contest. Thank you so much NMAC!
Northwest Minnesota Foundation Supports Band
Special thanks to the Northwest Minnesota Foundation for the $2,500 grant that will be used to purchase library shelving and digital recorders for the band.
Students to Attend Professional Performance
Thank you Sharon Gewirtz Fund for a grant of $500 to bring Crookston students to attend professional concert. We are still in the planning stage but will likely be attending a Grand Forks Symphony Concert on April 6th. The Sharon Gewirtz Kids to Concerts Fund’s mission is to support music education by providing children with the opportunity to experience classical music firsthand at live performances. The Sharon Gewirtz Kids to Concerts Fund grants focus on financial need in school and non-profit music programs throughout the United States. Grants will be awarded in September of each year. Grant are made for each cycle up to $500 and are made on an annual one-time basis.
